Introduction
This is the privacy policy for the Vampirism.co Minecraft server.
We aren't a big, faceless corporation that hoards your data to sell it or do shady stuff with it. This policy isn't being written by a team of lawyers with the goal to leave no room for prosecutions, but instead people who actually work with and control the data mentioned.
We’re a community-focussed game server, and we care about your privacy. It’s important that you know what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.
No hidden tricks, no meaningless marketing or corporate slang. This policy is here to be clear, honest, and easy to understand. We've grouped the categories of data we collect by the purpose or reason they're collected.
Contact
If you ever have questions about your data, feel free to ask us. We’re real people, not robots.
Data that a Minecraft server saves by default
- IP address & port used to establish a connection
- Minecraft username
- Minecraft UUID (the unique, never changing ID of your Minecraft account)
- Chat messages including commands
- Gameplay data (this means most of Minecraft's actual data, like blocks you've placed or broken in the world, your inventory, XP, levels, advancements, in-game statistics, homes, claims of land, etc.)
Data we collect additionally for statistics
- From which source you've downloaded our modpack (fully anonymized, not linked to any of your data)
- Installed mods and their versions at the time of connecting to the server
Data we collect aditionally for moderation, catching rule violations and preventing ban evasion
- Written notes, warnings or bans issued by staff
- If detected, names of the "xray" resourcepacks present at the time of connecting to the server
- Other Minecraft accounts that we think you might or we know you do own
- Hardware ID (a semi-unique irreversible hash value based on your computer's hardware – imagine this like a sticky note we put on your computer: we don't actually know anything about it, but with that sticky note, we can tell it apart from other computers)
- Any data we can find with Open Source Intelligence (this simply means finding useful information from public sources like websites, social media, etc.)
Data sharing
We do not pass on the data we collect to anyone else, expect for these reasons:
- Because of the Internet's nature, data like the IP address & port used to establish a connection might be visible to our server's hosting provider and the network operators
- We talk about data and need to save it somewhere, which means that we need to "share" data with the providers of the tools we use, like Discord for communication or Trello for record keeping
- Every year, we archive the world with all of its contents and publicise it on archive.org – a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more – which also includes your user generated content left in the world at the end of each year
- Your statistics (playtime, levels, advacements, etc.) may be featured in a blog post wrapping up each year on the server
- Lastly, law enforcement may issue warrants to obtain data from us or any of the aforementioned third parties.
How long we keep your data
Generally, we keep the data indefinitely. We do this to prevent ban evasion and allow for future investigations.
Depending on your local data protection laws, you might have a "right to be forgotten", about which you can contact the server administration. However, if you are currently banned and submit a deletion request, we may refuse this request based on our legitimate interest in enforcing our moderation policies. You do not have a right to access or play on our server, and we reserve the right, as the server owner, to exclude users at our discretion, so data we need to realize this is kept with a legitimate interest and not used for anything else.
